France – Rhône Valley

This ancient estate, has been on a steady and successful improvement program in the recent 15 years. Proprietor, Henri de Lanzac and his family are constantly working to care for the old vines and improve the soil in this 30 ha Lirac vineyard, adjacent to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 6 ha plot in the commune of Tavel. We see this rejuvenated domaine as one of the most vibrant sources for delicious, great value southern Rhone reds as well as arguably France’s top Tavel rosé.

Such is the local demand for this great value bottling we only manage to secure 150 cases per year. It’s a self-imposed, de-classified Lirac. A sweet, ripe and fleshy blend from 50% grenache, 30% syrah, 10% cinsault, 10% carignan. Vinification: 8 days skin maceration in temperature controlled vats. Aged 90% in tank, 10% in barrel. The wine is ripe, rich and round, with blackcurrant, raspberry, white pepper, spicy, earthy and tarry notes. True Côtes du Rhône in a warm, rich & ample style.

(50% grenache, 30% syrah, 10% cinsault, 5% mourvèdre, 5% carignan from the clay and limestone of Lirac, with an average vine-age of 40 years.) It’s classic, rich, spicy and fruity with a little undergrowth.

(50% grenache, 30% cinsault, 15% clairette, 5% syrah) Packed with joie-de-vie, the nose is explosive with fresh wild cherries, strawberries, and a great floral component. It is full bodied and almost drinks like a light style red wine because it is so rich. The flavours are intense and the wine has beautiful balance and class.
