France – Rhone Valley
An estate that consistently produces classy and characterful reds that punch well above their weight in terms of price. The historic Chateau Pesquie estate, owned by the Chaudiere family is located just to the east of the Avignon / Chateauneuf du Pape area, but it sits at an average altitude of about 300 meters, making it slightly cooler.
This climate helps create wines that are not porty or jammy, but still have great generosity of flavour and spicy richness. The vineyards are a mix of various terroirs from gravelly soil covered with limestone rocks to soils with iron oxides sands and clays. The organic estate is planted with 60% grenache and 40% syrah (with some traces of carignan, cinsault and mourvedre).
